My Visit to the Aberfoyle Junction

By Denis Rule

If you are in the Guelph area I would strongly suggest that you pay a visit to the Aberfoyle Junction.  Situated just 1 mile North of highway 401 (exit 299) just East of Guelph . The layout is usually open to the public two weekend in May before the long weekend or the three weekend in the fall following the Canadian Thanksgiving Day.

The O Scale layout is housed in it own building and was specifically finished to enhance the display.   Set in the 1950's this transition era features the CNR and the CPR in Southern Ontario.  The structures are mostly are scratchbuilt but a few commercial kit are on the layout.  One of the most interesting features of the model is the day to night transition.  This feature lasts about 10 minutes as the room light slowly dim and hundreds of mini bulbs turn most reveling the highly detailed interiors.  As the night deepens many of the house light go out, and then the room light slowly begin to brighten.
